Harmonizer is an iPad music app for exploring pitch relationships and developing a stronger ear. Play Shepard tones, study how notes connect, and see the pitch you are singing.

The app supports traditional note names as well as movable Do, with a selectable tonic so musicians and students can practice in any key.

With thanks to Stephen

Harmonizer was created by Stephen Malinowski, who first developed it as an experimental iPad app in 2010. This is Stephen’s project and idea; I am grateful for the opportunity to take over its maintenance and help keep it working on current devices.

You can read about the app’s history, design, and original musical ideas on Stephen’s Harmonizer page.

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 26, 2026

Harmonizer is designed to work without collecting personal information.

Information we collect

Harmonizer does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share personal information. The app does not include advertising, analytics, tracking, user accounts, or third-party data-collection services.

Microphone

Harmonizer may request access to the microphone for real-time pitch detection. Audio is analyzed on the device as you use the feature. It is not recorded, stored, or transmitted.

You can deny or revoke microphone access in iPad Settings. Features that do not require pitch detection will continue to work.

Motion sensors

Harmonizer may use device motion information to keep note labels oriented correctly as the iPad moves. Motion information is used only in real time on the device and is not stored or transmitted.

Preferences stored on your device

Settings such as your selected notation and movable-Do tonic may be saved locally on your device using Apple’s standard preferences system. These settings are not transmitted to the developer.

Children’s privacy

Because Harmonizer does not collect personal information, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If Harmonizer’s privacy practices change, this policy will be updated on this page with a revised effective date.
